Bibby Marine selects Wireless Logic for five-year maritime connectivity and ICT upgrade

Wireless Logic, a leading IoT solutions provider, has secured a five-year contract with Liverpool-based Bibby Marine to deliver a comprehensive upgrade to the connectivity and ICT infrastructure onboard its Wavemaster fleet.

The solution will combine high-speed Starlink LEO satellite internet with 4G/5G cellular connectivity and long-range maritime antennas, enabling seamless, future-proof communications for both crew and passengers.

As part of the Wireless Logic group, Blue Wireless will be responsible for integrating the onboard ICT network, delivering managed Wi-Fi and secure internet access tailored for maritime operations. Wireless Logic will provide the underlying global connectivity, ensuring robust, high-quality internet services even in remote offshore locations.

Bibby Marine, founded in 1840, is a global leader in operating Customer Service Operation Vessels (CSoVs) and floating accommodation ships. Its Wavemaster fleet plays a vital role in supporting offshore infrastructure by transporting maintenance technicians to oil, gas, and wind turbine installations. With this new partnership, Bibby Marine aims to significantly enhance operational reliability and elevate the digital experience for crew and passengers – focusing on connectivity-driven efficiency, safety, and wellbeing at sea.

Previously, vessels relied on geo-stationary satellite connections for connectivity at sea. Bibby Marine used these satellites, positioned approximately 36,000 kilometers above Earth, which, despite their suitability for communication and weather observation, introduced significant delays and incurred high costs. Following a successful pilot, Bibby Marine has now commissioned Wireless Logic to equip a significant portion of the fleet with Starlink satellite communication, combined with 4/5G connections. Wireless Logic is an Authorised Global Reseller of Starlink.

Starlink’s LEO satellite services utilise a network of satellites flying at 550 kilometers from Earth, ensuring minimal communication delay and enabling higher data speeds. Wireless Logic will also construct a LAN network on the ships, featuring switches, routers, and access points to provide high-quality Wi-Fi to all onboard. Wireless Logic will maintain and manage this infrastructure over the next five years.

“We are proud to be selected by a renowned entity like Bibby Marine as their new supplier,” said Leo van der Putten, Senior Account Director at Wireless Logic. “Wireless Logic offers comprehensive service based on the ‘Managed LEO+4/5G’ proposition, combining both channels into a single virtual secure connection for reliable performance at the lowest possible cost. Special maritime antennas will receive cellular signals far offshore, up to 50 km. This ensures the continuity of daily business and internet availability for everyone onboard. We look forward to our strategic collaboration, including developing a fully electrically powered ship.”

“At Bibby Marine, we are always looking for ways to make life better for our customers and crew onboard all of our vessels,” said Nigel Quinn, CEO of Bibby Marine. “Reliable, high-quality internet plays a crucial role in that and we are proud to partner with Wireless Logic, which is equipped with the right technology, knowledge and sector-specific experience to help us enhance our service delivery and experience onboard.”
